Commercial construction projects are typically privately-funded operations, consisting of a wide spectrum of programs. A few broad examples of commercial projects include hotels, a dry cleaner's, a restaurant, a department store, a parking garage; typically a place of business is being built.

Listed below is an example of a commercial project in recent headlines:

CityCenter, Las Vegas, Nevada [1]

A joint-venture between MGM Grand and Infinity World Development Corp, this project boasts both residential and commercial spaces for its users. It will also host a $40 million Public Fine Art Program. Eight architects came together to design the project's 18 million sf of sustainable mixed-use design. During construction, it created 8,000 jobs, and once fully complete, it will employ over 12,000 individuals. Also, each of the buildings will be applying to the USGBC for LEED Certification.

  • ARIA Resort & Casino: centerpiece of the CityCenter design, over 4,000 rooms and 300,000 sf of meeting space, 215,000 sf of pool deck, 50 cabanas, 1,500 users
  • Vdara Hotel: smoke-free, non-gaming, sustainable design, approx. 1,495 suites, 57 floors
  • Mandarin Oriental Hotel and Residences: 227 residences with contemporary eastern theme, 400 hotel rooms
  • The Harmon: slated to open 2010, aiming for Platinum LEED Certification using sustainable design, 400 hotel rooms and residences
  • Veer Towers: the only tower catering only to residences, 37 floors of upscale condominiums
  • Crystals: retail and entertainment hub for the CityCenter
  • Public Fine Art Program: Each component of the CityCenter is earmarked by a sweeping art display that will be available for viewing by the public
