Check that Minimum Flexural Steel is achieved
|
Note: The minimum steel provisions calculated below does not need to be followed if the area of the steel provided in the beam exceeds the necessary steel by 33% (ACI 318 10.5.3)[1] |
For a normal Beam:
A_{s-min} = {3\sqrt{f'_c}b_wd\over{f_y}} \ge {200b_wd\over f_y}
where:
As-min = Minimum area for the tension steel.
fy = The yield strength of the steel (e.g. 40 ksi, 60 ksi)
f'c = The compression strength of the concrete (e.g. 4 ksi, 6 ksi)
bw = the width of the concrete beam
d = depth of to the rebar
fy = The yield strength of the steel (e.g. 40 ksi, 60 ksi)
f'c = The compression strength of the concrete (e.g. 4 ksi, 6 ksi)
bw = the width of the concrete beam
d = depth of to the rebar
For a T-beam with tension in the flange:
As-min is the smaller of:
A_{s-min} = {3\sqrt{f'_c}b_wd\over{f_y}} \ge {200b_wd\over f_y}
A_{s-min} = {6\sqrt{f'_c}b_wd\over{f_y}}
where:
bw = the width of the flange
