How to use this Spreadsheet:

This spreadsheet works in Microsoft Excel 2003 and later. A complete walkthrough of how this spreadsheet works can be found here.

The top portion of the spreadsheet allows you to change your inputs:

where:

h = height of the beam + slab
b = width of the beam
cov = rebar cover
d = distance to rebar
t = thickness of the slab
fy = the strength of the rebar (psi)
fc' = the strength of the concrete (psi)
β1 = Strength Reduction Ratio
ø = Strength Reduction Factor
As = Steel area in member (in2)
L = total length of the t-beam
s = t-beam spacing (on center)

The bottom portion of the spreadsheet calculates øMn (the factored capacity of the beam using LRFD). It also checks to see if the beam is tensioned controlled (this will determine what your ø factor should be.

  2. This spreadsheet solves for flexural only (shear is not considered)
